Prince William’s final minute choice to drag out of occasion ‘units alarm bells’

Prince William’s final minute choice to withdraw from a significant household occasion for private causes has “set alarm bells ringing”, a royal professional warned.

Prince William pulled out of a memorial service at Windsor Castle for his godfather, the late King Constantine of Greece, and Kensington Palace moved rapidly to say spouse Kate Middleton, who’s recovering from main surgical procedure, is “doing fine.”

TalkTV’s Royal Editor Sarah Hewson mentioned: “They don’t like to let people down at the last minute, and they certainly wouldn’t have wanted that public announcement that he’d had to pull out, either because of the questions it stands to raise.

“We’re instructed by Kensington Palace he isn’t attending due to a private matter, and so they do not need to go into any extra element about it.

“Given the backdrop of the King’s cancer and the Princess of Wales recovering after abdominal surgery, obviously there’s a lot of interest in the movements of the Royal Family, those members that are still out in public, and of course, when they pull out from something significant like this, alarm bells start ringing.

“There’s been some reassurance from Kensington Palace that the Princess continues to do properly at house, and I feel the final temper is this isn’t a trigger for alarm or panic. But clearly whenever you see a member of the Royal Family pulling out of an enormous occasion like this, you do begin to query why.”

Prince William is believed to have already apologised to members of the Greek Royal Family for snubbing the occasion on the final minute. Hewson mentioned: “His name was already there, printed in the order of service. He had called the Greek Royal Family this morning to tell them that he wasn’t able to attend, and to apologise for that.

“When Prince William pulls out – and this was his godfather, the second cousin of the King, a detailed pal of the King, first cousin as soon as eliminated of Prince Phillip. There are excellent shut ties between these two households, and members of the Royal Family do not like to drag out.”

It comes after expert Hewson claimed there was no chance Prince Andrew would return to frontline royal duties with Prince William around and that it’s “definitely not going to occur with King Charles on the throne”.

She added: “They know that the harm has been too nice and he is nonetheless a member of the household, and that is the road that they draw. He’s a member of the household, he is concerned within the household occasions, however we’re not going to see him representing the Royals on official enterprise.”
