Firefighters at Southampton’s St Mary’s stadium as enormous hearth rages

Firefighters have scrambled to place out a fireplace close to Southampton’s Football Club.

Plumes of smoke might be seen miles away after the inferno broke out at a disused warehouse perilously near St Mary’s Stadium.

Emergency companies have put a cordon in place as eyewitnesses described listening to ‘pops’ coming from the location.

Preston North End are attributable to play Southampton tonight in a vital promotion chasing sport on the stadium at 7.45.

The hearth is within the former Greenhams constructing on the Central Industrial Estate on Marine Parade.

It backs on to the park on the rear of the Chapel Stand within the stadium.

Firefighters are on the scene, desperately working to extinguish the flames as warehouse personnel take away stacks of pallets from close to the hearth. 

The partitions of the warehouse constructing had been seen starting to disintegrate as it’s ripped aside by the hearth. 

The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service stated: ‘Crews are at the moment attending a fireplace in Marine Parade Southampton. The preliminary name got here in at 13:05. 

‘The hearth is affecting industrial models close to St Mary’s soccer stadium. There are at the moment eight hearth engines, two Aerial Ladder Platforms and different specialist automobiles in attendance.

‘People within the space are suggested to maintain home windows and doorways closed as a result of quantity of smoke.

‘Some roads native to the incident are closed and individuals are suggested to keep away from the realm to permit actions of emergency automobiles.’

People in the area are advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the amount of smoke

Local bus companies are being affected because the roads are blocked by emergency companies.

The Daily Echo spoke to Nikki Delaney, who was within the space when the manufacturing unit went up in flames.

She stated: ‘The flames are excessive and it is getting worse.

‘The warmth from the flames is so much and I’m not even shut.’
