France slams ’emergency brake’ on public spending

France is placing an ‘emergency brake’ on public spending to carry its funds again beneath management, its finance minister has mentioned.
In an interview with French newspaper Le Monde, Bruno Le Maire warned the deficit for 2023 can have been ‘significantly’ above goal and mentioned additional spending cuts had been wanted.
‘Due to the loss of tax revenues in 2023, we will be significantly above the 4.9 per cent target,’ he mentioned, including that the £8.5billion of cuts this 12 months ‘are not about shaving down costs, but an emergency brake’.
An extra £10billion of spending cuts will likely be required in 2025 to get the ballooning deficit beneath management.
