Dead bloke, 91, ‘smuggled’ on aircraft in wheelchair and sun shades at UK airport

The relations of a useless 91-year-old man had been accused of attempting to smuggle his physique onto a aircraft by slumping him in a wheelchair and hiding his lifeless eyes with sun shades.

The man’s widow Gitta Jarant and stepdaughter Anke Anusic had been arrested at Liverpool John Lennon Airport when airport workers found Kurt Willi Jarant, 91, was useless. Mr Jarant, referred to as Willi, was in a wheelchair and sporting sun shades when officers checked his pulse and located no life.

Mrs Jarant, 66, and Mrs Anusic had been about to board a flight to Berlin again on April 3, 2010, when police swooped in to arrest them on suspicion of failing to provide notification of demise.

The girls denied that Mr Jarant had been useless for twenty-four hours regardless of propping sun shades on his head and saying he was “sleeping”. They had managed to ferry him from their dwelling in Oldham, Greater Manchester, by taxi.

Mrs Jarant, who was married to her husband for 9 years, stated: “We were in love. He was in my heart. If I wasn’t any good my husband wouldn’t have wanted me. He was a really good man. Everyone loved him and everyone was in shock about his death. I loved my Willi. He never shouted, he had very English etiquette.”

They claimed after they arrived on the airport two members of workers introduced out a wheelchair and helped the Alzheimer’s sufferer into it. The pair stated they solely instructed officers he was asleep as a result of they actually thought he was.

“Someone called the medical team and they got a doctor,” stated Mrs Jarant. “They put up a curtain so people couldn’t see. He was laid out on the floor. He would have been stiff if he had been dead for more than 24 hours.”

Mrs Anusic, a part-time youngster minder and scholar, stated her mum went into shock when she found her husband was useless and requested why the ex-pilot was sporting sun shades, Mrs Anusic stated he had an unpleasant eye and so they did not need different travellers looking at him.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesman stated: “At 11am on Saturday April 3, 2010, police at Liverpool John Lennon airport were alerted to the death of a 91-year-old man in the terminal building. Two women aged 41 and 66 were arrested on suspicion of failing to give notification of death. They have been released on bail until 1 June 2010. The coroner has been informed and police are continuing with their inquiries.”

However, the case towards the pair was later dropped as a result of the time of demise couldn’t be ascertained. Martin Hill, reviewing lawyer for the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), stated: “Having carefully reviewed a file of evidence presented to me by police, I have concluded that there is insufficient evidence to bring any charges in relation to the death of Kurt Willi Jarrant.”
