A girl has been recognized after she was stabbed to dying by her daughter, who reportedly tried to set her on hearth.

Joanne Perry, 53, died on Friday night after she was stabbed a number of occasions within the neck and chest, in keeping with the Herald Sun.

Officers have been known as to Kett St in Lower Plenty about 6.30pm on Friday following experiences a 26-year-old girl was attempting to set her mom on hearth.

Upon arrival, officers reported they have been challenged by the youthful girl who was armed with a knife.

At the time, the 26-year-old was on bail for an unrelated matter and was the topic of an apprehended violence order.

Victoria Police Acting Superintendent Scott Colson stated the officer was left ‘no different selection’ than to discharge his firearm.

‘It’s a horrible state of affairs,’ he stated.

‘They (police) do not go to work anticipating to attract their firearms and be concerned in these types of tragedies.’
