But now, Dr Gareth Nye, Programme Lead for Medical Science at Chester Medical School, mentioned: “Infections are bacterial in their basis which can be serious in specific situations – such as open wounds, immunocompromised people. Reports suggest they are gram negative bacteria like e coli or salmonella. There is a small chance of bacteria which cause MSRA.

“Within healthcare and a number of other sectors, wearing rings does pose a risk of infection, particularly if those rings have ridges or stones. They can be difficult to clean and keep sterile and so advice is not to wear them in clinical settings when coming into contact with patients.

“The actual impact this has is debated but leaning on the better safe than sorry approach is almost universally used. However, for most of the general population, the risk of self-infection due to wearing rings is negligible.”

Another situation with Kate’s lack of ring is how lengthy it has not been there contemplating her “planned surgery” was in January – greater than seven weeks in the past.
