Chelsea vs Arsenal delayed by equipment conflict – with Gunners shopping for socks from rivals

Arsenal’s Women’s Super League sport a Chelsea has been delayed by a equipment conflict.

After the Gunners began warming up at Stamford Bridge of their white socks, a equipment conflict was noticed. That resulted in Arsenal officers having to sprint to the Chelsea membership store to purchase a workforce’s price of darkish socks.

The Blues’ emblem on the socks was then lined up by tape. Chelsea had initially introduced that kick-off can be delayed “for an indefinite period due to an Arsenal kit issue”.

Former Chelsea and Wales striker Helen Ward, who’s summarising the sport for BBC Five Live, stated: “There will be a fine on two counts, the kit issue and the late kick-off. Somebody is going to get in a bit of trouble I think.

“I’m sure it has happened in the men’s game as well but when this happens on such a high profile game in the WSL, a game that’s live on TV, a game that’s got a near sell-out crowd it doesn’t help those that still want to put it down. It’s silly little thing that makes a massive impact.”

The match, between two of three WSL title contenders, lastly acquired underway at 7.30pm, half-hour later than scheduled.

Ward added: “It’s such a small thing but it’s made such a big impact. A 30-minute delay because of the wrong socks. It’s just an oversight which surprises me because kit managers are usually the most meticulous at the club. The main thing is we’ve got a game on and we’re almost ready to go.”
