Britain’s greatest fish and chip retailers named – see in case your native makes the checklist
Britain’s 14 greatest fish and chip retailers have been named.
A brand new checklist of the UK’s prime chippys has been revealed. And in line with the brand new rating by the Time Out journey journal, the UK’s prime chippy is The Magpie Cafe in Whitby, Yorkshire.
Chip specialists on the journal praised the cafe for being “no frills, all gills” saying its fish was responsibly sourced including that its giant cod and chips was a meal of “whale-like proportions”.

Following carefully behind in second place was Fochabers Fish Bar in Moray, Scotland, which the magazine stated had cemented its place as “Scotland’s number one fish and chip takeaway”, reviews the Express.
The journal stated of the Scottish fish bar: “Not only does the fish look and taste great but so do the chequered tables and white tiles that makeup the refreshingly retro interior that hasn’t changed since the day it opened. What’s more, the service at Fochabers is friendly, efficient, and will see that you get your supper in a flash.”

The third-placed chippy was in Northern Ireland, with Belfast’s John Long’s being praised as one of many metropolis’s “seven wonders”.
The journal stated of the chip store: “The portions are generous considering the friendly price point and it’s rare to get served a wedge of battered fish here that doesn’t arrive in the perfect shade of amber.
“John Long’s is mainly what you’d get in case you advised an AI to create the right chip store from the bottom up: we would not change a factor.”
Their top ten chippies includes Trenchers and The Magpie Cafe in Whitby, Exeters Fish Shed, Skippers of Euxton in Lancashire, Ambles Fish Shack, Nottinghams Cods Scallops and Brightons Rybka.
In addition, two brilliant Welsh chippies made the list, as did Scottish takeaways. Chipmongers in Portstewart and Londonderry got a spot, too!

Time Out referred to as Chipmonger a part of a “new wave” of takeaways that at the moment are popping up throughout the UK.
They wrote: “It’s easy to feel sceptical when seeing a monkfish and prawn thai curry on the menu at your local chippy, but Chipmongers are dedicated to keeping their prices keen and doing justice to the traditions of the chipper with their craggy battered cod.”
