A 14-year-old boy killed in the Hainault ‘sword’ attack has been named and pictured for the first time.

Daniel Anjorin was among five people hurt in the horrific attack, suffering fatal injuries he was stabbed. A 36-year-old suspect was Tasered and arrested within around 22 minutes of police being called to the “quiet” suburban neighbourhood in northeast London yesterday (Tuesday, April 30).

Daniel is understood to have been wearing his school uniform when he was attacked. Two police officers went o hospital with stab wounds after rushing to intervene, along with two more victims whose injuries are understood to not be life-threatening.

The BBC has reportedly seen a statement made by Simon Marshall, the head of Bancroft’s School which Daniel attended, to parents. It said: “I had been intending to write to you once the news has become public, but I understand that many within our community may already be aware of events yesterday.

“It is therefore with great sadness and shock that I am writing to inform you of the tragic death of Daniel Anjorin, one of our pupils.

“Our thoughts and prayers at this moment are with Daniel’s family and friends.

“More details will be forthcoming over the coming hours and days, but for now, our focus is on supporting the members of our community and particularly those who knew Daniel well.”

One of Daniel’s friends, Cyan Thompson, 19, told the same outlet: “He was a great footballer… like a young Messi in his prime days, I’ll be honest.” Watching him “made me think I wanted to play football more, the way he would play”, he added.

“This is a tragedy, I can’t lie.”

Two of the other victims in the attack are understood to be men in their 30s.

The suspect is also understood to have been taken to hospital after his van collided with a house early in the morning of April 30, Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service Louisa Rolfe said. Police have been unable to speak to the man, who has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

In total, ambulance services confirmed five victims were taken to hospital. Cops are understood to have been contacted around 7am with reports that the vehicle had been driven into a house in the Thurlow Gardens area.

Wes Streeting, MP for Ilford North, which includes Hainault said yesterday (April 30): “I can’t imagine what the poor boy’s family are going through,” adding, “Our community deserves answers.”

Police are keen to speak to anyone with information on the attack. Assistant Commissioner Rolfe said: “This is an incident that has clearly shocked everyone – please speak to our officers. As soon as possible.”

At the time of writing, Met Police do not believe the incident was targeted or terror-related. Dramatic footage was captured on a Ring Doorbell showing the moment the suspect was Tasered to the ground by officers.
