Erik ten Hag responds to claims that the majority of Man Utd’s stars are on the market

Erik ten Hag has hit back at “untrue” reports that the majority of his Manchester United squad is up for sale this summer.

Various reports this week stated the club are open to parting ways with all but three of their players in the upcoming transfer window. The three players cited as “off limits” were promising youngsters Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund, meaning even star man Marcus Rashford and captain Bruno Fernandes could be sold.

But Ten Hag has now rubbished those rumours in an interview with United legend Gary Neville, in which he dropped 13 bombshells relating to his tenure and this season in general.

Neville asked the Dutchman whether the whole squad was under scrutiny following Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s purchase of a 27.7% stake in the club earlier this year, before quizzing him on the aforementioned reports and where he believed they had come from.

Ten Hag chuckled while saying: “How many [false] headlines have you seen? If I put all of them together I think there would be a thousand lines which are all untrue.”

Asked if he had full belief in his players going forward, Ten Hag responded with: “When I’ve just told you that we have young talented players, that would not make sense.”

Ten Hag also described the reports of a mass summer clear-out as “total crap” in his press conference on Friday. He said: “It’s a joke! As long as I worked here, every summer, 200 players are getting an interest from Manchester United, which is untrue. We did some research.

“Every summer, we sell every player in our squad. Which is untrue. Be calm and take responsibility when you take such a headline. It is totally c**p.”

Ten Hag did admit in his interview with Neville that he had been unable to land some of the players he wanted in recent transfer windows, such as Harry Kane and Frenkie de Jong. He also highlighted the need to have defenders who could play out from the back in the near future.
