Holiday horror as lady discovered lifeless in Tenerife sea with legs and hand hacked off

The grizzly discovery of a dead and mutilated, woman floating in the Atlantic Ocean has been identified as one half of a missing couple.

The woman’s body was found floating in the ocean off Tenerife, with her legs severed, one hand hacked off and a plastic bag over her head.

The body has been identified as that of Laura Trappeniers, a 66-year-old Belgian national who has been missing since April 22, 2024, along with her 71-year-old husband Marc Olbrechts.

Laura’s husband, Marc, remains missing

The couple have lived on the popular holiday destination for 16 years.

A fisherman found Laura’s decomposing remains in the Atlantic on April 27, near the islands Arico coast, nearly 30 miles from their home in Callao Salvaje.

Local media reports that her legs and one hand had been hacked off and a plastic bag was over her head.

The couple vanished on April 22

An autopsy revealed that she had probably been in the water for up to four days, based on the rate of decomposition.

Police have confirmed that her husband is still missing.

The couple had gone to their weekly yoga class on April 22 but were never seen again, the couple’s friends told police.

Their blue Opel Mokka Spanish-registered car also remains missing.

One friend said: “They looked happy, everything looked like it was going well.

A Belgian government spokesperson said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brussels and the Belgian consulate in Tenerife are following this case closely and are in contact with the other competent Spanish and Belgian authorities on this matter.”

The police investigation is ongoing.

The grim discovery comes as a Tenerife local has slammed the island’s tourism trade for making parts of the area unsafe.

Daily Star reports that 15-year-old Celia Quintero has blasted the impact of rowdy tourists, claiming they’ve turned parts of the island into no-go zones for locals

She warned: “I wouldn’t go to the south of the island alone, it is not safe for young women.”
