Kate Middleton ‘anticipated’ to nominate sister Pippa to ‘evolving’ royal position

Kate Middleton has been tipped to appoint her sister Pippa to a key role once she becomes Queen.

Royal historian Kate Williams says Princess Kate will have some thinking to do when her husband Prince William ascends the throne.

Specifically, Kate might consider appointing Pippa as her lady-in-waiting, according to the royal expert. Speaking on a recent episode of the Royal Beat podcast, Ms Williams said: “I think traditionally, we might expect Catherine to appoint her sister Pippa, [as her lady in waiting] because Catherine is so famously close to her family.

“She doesn’t have companions because she’s so close to her mother and her sister.”

Speaking of Pippa, who wowed viewers with her outfit at her sister’s wedding in 2011, Ms Williams continued: “I think we might possibly expect that Pippa might be someone she might appoint. But then, of course, Pippa has her own life. Three children, a busy life of her own. It’s a fascinating question.”

Ms Williams added: “And the role is definitely evolving at the same time. It’s evolving, but the job of a monarch and a consort isn’t getting any smaller.

“The letters, the correspondence, the emails are growing every day. So when Catherine becomes Queen, the levels of tours, the levels of letters, the level of receptions, will still require this assistance.” She concluded by saying: “So I think she will have to appoint some ladies-in-waiting.”

Pippa opened up about her tight-knit relationship with sister Kate in a 2014 interview with NBC, stating: “We have a very normal, sisterly relationship. And, you know, we support each other and get each other’s opinions and things.”

Like Kate, Pippa has three children, including her youngest Rose who was born in 2022. Kate and Pippa also have a younger brother named James.
