Met Office maps present temperatures soar over 20C subsequent week as ‘sunshine incoming’

Advanced weather modelling maps from the Met Office show Brits can expect a balmy start to next week, with temperatures possibly rising above 20C quite widely.

As for this Bank Holiday weekend, the national weather agency expects mixed conditions with “further showers or longer spells of rain for some”, but with all areas seeing some “drier conditions and sunshine”.

Deputy Chief Meteorologist Mark Sidaway said “it should feel quite warm” where there is sunshine, but there is uncertainty in the forecast as to exactly where and when the rain will come.

He added: “It really will depend on where you are geographically as to what weather you might experience. But for the exact details for your area, stay up to date with forecasts over the coming days.”

However, the UKV weather model – which is run by the Met Office – shows Monday (May 6) and Tuesday (May 7) should bring warmer temperatures, with the mercury possibly rising to 20C and above in several areas.

The maps show that on Monday at 3pm the warmest spots will be the Midlands, the Welsh border, Yorkshire and eastern regions. Scotland, the north-west and the south-east could all hit 19C.

Temperatures are expected to rise a bit more on Tuesday, with the maps showing 21C could come to the Midlands and southern-central regions by 3pm. Most of the rest of southern, eastern and central England, as well as parts of Wales, could hit 20C – although things are expected to be a few notches cooler further north.

The Met Office says: “Monday looks to be a mixed bag with showers developing, perhaps some more organised rain for the south, but, there should also be some decent spells of sunshine in between, with temperatures a little above average. From Tuesday onwards, it looks like high pressure will start to build, potentially bringing a more settled and drier, period.”

BBC Weather says for Sunday to Tuesday: “Cloudy in the north on Sunday with light rain to start, followed by heavy showers, locally thundery. Sunny spells for the south, but variable cloud and showers developing in the far south-west, with a risk of thunder.

“Partly cloudy with occasional showers or spells of rain on Monday, these most likely in the south-east. Turning drier but with cloud lingering around on Tuesday.”
