Non-League membership put up job advert as Premier League cult hero is sacked
Pascal Chimbonda has been sacked as manager of non-league Skelmersdale United, who wasted no time in beginning their search for his successor.
The former Tottenham defender kick-started his coaching career in October by taking charge of the ninth-tier club. He also registered as a player at the age of 44.
It was an eventful tenure, to say the least. He was sent from the touchline in one of his early games in charge and picked up a five-match touchline ban, later reduced to three on appeal.

In another match, a 6-0 defeat, he was caught swearing 72 times during a half-time rant. Meanwhile, after a 10-1 loss at Bury, Chimbonda issued a public apology to supporters. Skelmersdale were eventually relegated after finishing at the foot of the North West Counties League Premier Division, with the Frenchman leaving the club as a result.
In a statement, Skelmersdale thanked Chimbonda for his efforts before inviting applications for the post. The club said: “On behalf of everyone at Skelmersdale United FC, the club would like to place on record its gratitude to Pascal for all his efforts during his time with the club.

“Pascal joined the club when it was rooted at the bottom of the table, with the same of resurrect the club’s fortunes. And whilst there were many memories during his six-month tenure, it didn’t quite work out the way either party had anticipated. As such the club believe it’s time to regroup and seek a new appointment.
“Pascal’s drive and enthusiasm has never been in question, and he leaves the club having brought it unrivalled publicity as both manager and player. We would like to wish Pascal all the very best for the future. Applications are invited for the manager’s job along with CV to [email protected].”
Meanwhile, after being quizzed on social media about his departure, Chimbonda confirmed: “I didn’t quit I just been sack [ed].”
