Darwin Nunez deletes Liverpool pics from Instagram after depressing Spurs outing
Darwin Nunez has seemingly wiped his Instagram account clean of all Liverpool-related posts – save for one image.
The Uruguayan striker has faced a barrage of criticism over the last couple of months due to his lack of composure in front of goal, a problem that plagued the Reds as their title challenge collapsed in the latter stages of the Premier League season. Team-mates including star forward Mohamed Salah have also been hugely wasteful in front of goal, but Nunez has born the brunt of frustration surrounding a glut of missed opportunities.
Nunez’s most recent appearance was as a 75th minute substitute in Sunday’s 4-2 victory against Tottenham Hotspur, when he was flagged offside when assisting Salah for a chalked-off strike, wasted a counter attack by failing to provide Cody Gakpo with a chance on goal, then squandered a one-on-one opportunity. The 24-year-old now holds the dubious distinction of being caught offside more times (32) than any other player in the top flight this season and is second in missing big chances (27).

Despite registering a pretty impressive 18 goals and 13 assists in all competitions in his second season at Anfield, only 11 of those strikes have come in the Premier League, meaning speculation is rife about what lies ahead for the former Benfica forward. Liverpool shelled out an initial £64.1m for Nunez in June 2022, a figure that could potentially rise to £85m with add-ons.
And now Nunez has deleted all photos of him in action for the club from his Instagram account, except for one – a picture of him training at the AXA Training Centre just after signing in 2022. His photos from Benfica and his international career remain, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp – who is leaving at the end of this season and expected to be replaced by Feyenoord coach Arne Slot – previously responded to questions about the struggles of Nunez and Mohamed Salah in front of goal, following a string of bad results when the finishing ability of his frontline was called into question. He said: “It’s tricky. Strikers have to go through these things. That’s how it is.
“That’s a striker’s life. A goalkeeper’s life is make 500 saves, then one howler – and everybody talks about this. A striker’s life is you score all the time, then you don’t score for a while and then everybody asks why you don’t score.
“It can be the most difficult thing in the world and sometimes it’s the easiest thing in the world, depending on what chance you get. We had good chances against Everton but again we were a bit in a rush in finishing them off.
“So create again, create again and try and get in the right positions to finish the situations off. It will be a really rich man or woman who can write that book [on a striker getting back to their best]. You have to go through it. I try to help them speeding it up. That says nothing about the quality of the boys.”
