Fans ‘cannot wait to look at Fernandes crying’ as Prem ref wears cam for first time
Football fans can’t wait to watch Bruno Fernandes “crying and shouting” at referee Jarred Gillett when he wears a video camera tonight – a first for a Premier League official.
Gillett is the man in the middle for Manchester United’s trip to Crystal Palace on Monday evening. And he will be equipped with a head-mounted device called a ‘RefCam’.
The footage sadly will not be broadcast live, with it instead being used for a one-off programme providing insight into officiating in the Premier League. But football fans have realised that when it is finally aired, they’ll get to see United captain Fernandes’ infamous moaning up close and personal.

“Hopefully those cameras can upload pictures on the socials too. Can make countless memes out of Bruno’s antics alone,” one fan joked. While a second said: “Player cam on Bruno Fernandes then…”
“Great! That means five hundred close-ups of Bruno’s face, crying to the ref because he tripped over the penalty spot,” a third replied. And another added: “95 minutes of Bruno Fernandes complaining incoming!”

The Bundesliga pulled a similar stunt earlier this year, when, in February, Daniel Schlager wore a camera and microphone during a 2-2 draw between Eintracht Frankfurt and Wolfsburg. The subsequent footage was then used on ‘Referees Mic’d up – Bundesliga’.
While, over the summer, Premier League referee Rob Jones wore a camera for a 2023 Summer Series match between Chelsea and Brighton in Philadelphia. Referee cameras have also been trialled at grassroots level by the FA – as they look to stamp out the amount of abuse officials suffer.
United are back in action as they look to qualify for Europe and build some form ahead of their upcoming FA Cup final with Manchester City later this month. Erik ten Hag’s underperforming crew, who currently sit eighth in the table, but with a game in hand over Chelsea and Newcastle, will be looking for revenge after missing out to their city rivals at the same stage last season.
