‘I attempted Mrs Hinch hack to banish sink marks – and could not imagine outcomes’
I clean my bathroom sink regularly – but can never quite get results that look professional.
No matter how much product I’ve sprayed over it or how hard I’ve rubbed it down, I’ve never managed to banish that dreaded ‘black ring’ from the edge of my plug hole.
I’d almost accepted my fate with it and it appears I may not have been the only one. A woman in a Facebook group called Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips was asking the very same question.
She wrote: “Hi, I’d appreciate any advice on how to remove this black ring. Thank you.”

More than 300 people took to the comments with potential solutions. One user suggested using bleach and leaving it to sit – but others quickly warned that it would damage the plughole by taking the silver off. Better not.
However, many others responded claiming a toothbrush and your usually cleaning scrub could do the trick. A user wrote: “Whatever cleaning product you use, an old toothbrush will scrub that out in seconds.”
So I thought I’d give it a try. I had a spare manual toothbrush, from a pack which only cost me £1, and some of my Pink Stuff Miracle Cleaning Paste and got to work. I wasn’t scrubbing for long before the dirt started coming away.
In less than a minute, it was ready to be rinsed away and I could see just how well it worked. I was left with a completely gleaming sink. This is a hack I will definitely be using again.
