World’s most boring vacationer points of interest revealed as London pair make ‘yawn record’

The world’s most boring tourist attractions have been revealed – and the London is home to two of those among the top 15.

Compiled by the people at Solitaired, more than 3,200 attractions were analysed using 66.7million Google reviews across 384 cities. Once analysed, they ranked the attractions by which tourists mentioned boredom-related keywords, comparing the mentions to the total reviews for each spot.

The top most boring attraction was the Branson Scenic Railway in Branson, Missouri, United States, followed by the Illuminarium in Atlanta, Georgia. This was followed by the Jurassic Junge Boat Ride in Tennessee on the US-heavy list, while the Salem Witch Museum in Salem (obviously) and the LEGO Discovery Centre in Atlanta came next.

Two more followed – the Adler Planetarium in Chicago and the Museum of Science and Industry in Tampa, Florida – before the first UK-based attraction appeared. Coming in at eight on the list was Shrek’s London adventure, with a boredom score of 2.9 out of five – making it the UK’s most boring tourist attraction.

And just four places lower in 12th is the London Dungeon, racking up a boredom score of 2.6. There is only one other place listed in the top 100, which is Twycross Zoo in Warwickshire.

Recent reviews of the Shrek attraction appear to corroborate with the list, as a review from December 2023 is headlined as “a bit dull and repetitive” on Tripadvisor.

The review states:”Went with a seven-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy. Girl had a great time but the rest of us in the party thought it very boring. Too much waiting around at the start for a photo that you are ‘prompted’ to buy.

“This caused a huge bottle neck in a very small space. Felt very outdated. There are better attractions (including the London dungeon next door) to spend your money on. Was the only thing I wish I hadn’t wasted my money on during our whole weekend in London.”

Despite the advice from the review, a recent London Dungeon review also tallies with the boring list, as it was labelled as “really boring”.

A review posted: “I found this to be extremely boring the waiting in the queues between each quite poorly acted scenario was extreme. My son had been so looking forward to the experience and was almost afraid to tell me how poor he thought it was.

“There were no real thrills or excitement just a series of walks through a dark tunnel with no information about where we were and then long waits without being told why. I cannot honestly recommend this to anybody to spend two hours at a time for so much money it would be better to go to a London theatre and be properly entertained.”
