WWE star Drew McIntyre compares rival to ‘all the time injured’ Scottish soccer membership

Top WWE star Drew McIntyre has taken a shot at rival CM Punk by comparing him to a Scottish Championship club.

Scotland’s own McIntyre, who won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 40 last month only to lose it just five minutes later, has been in a heated rivalry with controversial star Punk for several months.

The pair have been going at it back and forth for a while on WWE’s flagship show Monday Night Raw, with McIntyre unable to take the fight into the ring as Punk is on the long-term injury list. However, it is the injury-prone nature of the Chicago-native that has now prompted another dig from McIntyre when speaking exclusively to the Daily Star.

When asked to compare Punk to a Scottish football club, the die-hard Rangers fan told us: “What’s a team that just constantly has players that hurt themselves and get injured – Inverness Caledonian Thistle. I don’t know why they’re popping into my head. I’m trying to think of a team that had a random bit of glory a couple of times and live off of that. That would be Celtic, wouldn’t it?”

And with the huge WWE Clash at the Castle show coming up in Scotland in just a few months time, one would assume Drew would be looking forward to competing – and winning – in front of rival fans of Celtic.

But far from it, as the 38-year-old from Ayr has issued a rallying to fans to come and support the show because they are all “mental”. He said: “Celtic fans are mental, Rangers fans are mental. That night we’re all wrestling fans, it doesn’t matter what team you support.

“It’s a special occasion and we’re all getting together to show the world who are the craziest fans on earth. We need the Rangers, Celtic, Hibs, Hearts, Motherwell, Partick it doesn’t matter who you support that night we’ve just got to show that Scotland has the loudest fans on planet earth.”

Sticking with the football theme, Drew classes himself as a “bruiser” on the pitch who “lacks still” but is happy to just “smash my way through people”.

Sounds a bit like Duncan Ferguson if you ask us.
