England Euro 2024 rival’s backyard stadium can be ‘world’s most lovely floor’
Gardening and football don’t often go hand-in-hand – in fact, it’s close to never.
But an ambitious project in Serbia could see the world’s first stadium that’s alive, thanks to greenery. England are set to square off with Serbia at the upcoming Euros, with Dragan Stojkovic’s side drawn in Group C alongside the Three Lions.
And as their side gear up for a campaign in Germany, the bigwigs at the Serbian FA have revealed plans for a new stadium on the outskirts of Belgrade. However, the new 52,000 seater stadium will be unique – with the design incorporating trees and shrubbery.

We might not see it until past the 2026 World Cup, with construction planned from this summer until December 2026.
The design, by a Spanish architectural firm who were responsible for three of the eight stadiums built in Qatar, will have four “rings” suspended by cables that surround the stadium which will be covered in trees and bushes.

And the space isn’t just set to be a football stadium, with the vision including surrounding the area with kiosks, restaurants, leisure areas, three parks, a water sports centre and golf courses.
Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic visited the site, which is between the Belgrade ring road and the Nikola Tesla Airport, and said: “Today is a big day for football. Today is a day we should all rejoice.
“We will get a magnificent building which is currently and which in the coming period will be the most beautiful or among the three most beautiful stadiums [in the world].”
Serbia and England will kick off their Euros campaign against each other at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.
Gareth Southgate’s side then face clashes with Denmark and Slovenia as they look to win their first ever Euros, having fallen short at Wembley three years ago.
