The deaths come shortly after the death of Wayne Hay, 47, at HMP Parc, intensifying concerns as six inmates passed away in a span of over three weeks earlier this year.

The South Wales Police commented that while two out of the six deaths between February 27 and March 19 are considered non-suspicious, it is believed that the remaining four have links to drug use. In relation to these four fatalities, Detective Steve Jones stated in March, “a fast-track process has been undertaken and identified the presence of nitazene-based substances in connection with all four deaths”.

The potent psychoactive substance spice was found to be involved with two of these four aforementioned deaths.
