German style retailer Zalando has sporting probability of summer season enhance
In profit: German online fashion retailer Zalando sells brands such as Nike and Sweaty Betty
Zalando hopes a summer of sport will help it sell even more fitness clothes after swinging back into the black this year.
The German online fashion retailer, which sells brands such as Nike and Sweaty Betty, thinks business will be boosted by the Euro 2024 football tournament, held in Germany, and the Paris Olympics.
Zalando posted profits of £24.3million for the first three months of 2024 having made a loss of £600,000 a year earlier.
Bosses said it turned a profit thanks to better stock management and the value of the average order rose to £52 from £49.20.
Although overall sales slipped 0.6 per cent to £1.9billion, more shoppers bought sportswear.
Chief financial officer Sandra Dembeck said: ‘I would say the bigger moments are still ahead of us now with the Olympics and with the European Championships.’
Fashion businesses are hoping the Paris Games will help sell more sports fashion this summer.
