Wordle participant’s tactic lastly pays off after getting right reply first time
A Wordle player expressed his delight after his “system” finally paid off allowing him to guess in the first attempt.
Wordle took the puzzle world by storm in 2021, amassing 2million players per day just 10 months after Josh Wardle first shared it online. The puzzle is a five-letter word which is the same for everyone and changes every 24 hours.
All you need to do is guess the single word each time you play – you have six attempts to get it right. The game uses a colour-coded system to give a little hint by letting you know whether a letter is in the right spot or not.

For example, if you guess a word incorrectly, but one of the letters is right and in the correct position, that box turns green.
If a letter is in the word but it’s not in the right place in your guess, then the box turns yellow, and if a letter is not in the word at all, the box turns grey. The game lets you challenge yourself by turning on a ‘hard mode’ which forces players to use hints given by the game, stopping you from guessing words at random.
Now, an X (formerly Twitter) user has insisted his “life will never be the same” following his Wordle achievement on Wednesday (May 8).
“I have a system for Wordle,” he explained to his 9,000 followers on the platform. “Same every day. I’ve always wondered if the first word would ever be the word. It couldn’t happen could it? Today it did.
“Genuinely. I know I’ll never convince you I didn’t cheat. I didn’t. Life won’t be the same. Wordle 1,054 1/6.”
It appears other players employ the same method too. Responding to his tweet, another user penned: “I do this daily. I play against my daughter in the US. One day I asked my husband for a word, put it in, and it was correct. He (and I) was shocked, he’s not much of a wordsmith!”
Another added: “Congrats. I have a similar system. Just one word with 5 of the main letters of the alphabet. Don’t think I’ve ever got it on Guess 1 though. That’s a saver.”
And a lucky fourth player exclaimed: “I used the word HEART as my first word from when I started doing Wordle. One day it came up so I changed my first word to EARTH – an anagram of HEART. It came up as the answer not long after that so I have done it in one twice!”
A second previous ‘winner’ meanwhile, pointed out the poster will now have to adopt a new tactic, as the same word will never come up again.
“Trouble is… now you have to change your first word!” they commented. “It happened to me, my first word was TRAIN and then I had to completely change, and remember my system, and it drives me mad because I have no idea if my new word has already been used.”
