‘Miserable’ Man Utd flops worry they will not win once more this season below Ten Hag

Erik ten Hag‘s Manchester United flops fear they will not win another game this season.

The news is a huge blow to Ten Hag as he battles to save himself from the sack. Morale and confidence is so low among the United squad that there is a feeling among many of the players that their season could be all but over.

United have endured a miserable campaign, which has seen them fail to challenge for the title or secure Champions League qualification. A season of turmoil hit a new low on Monday with United’s 4-0 mauling at Crystal Palace.

It was United’s 13th league defeat of the season – the most they have suffered in a single season since the Premier League was formed. Ten Hag must somehow pick his players up for the visit of title chasing Arsenal on Sunday.

United’s confidence is said to be shot to pieces, with the players starting to think there is nothing they can do to spare Ten Hag from the sack. A club insider described the mood among United’s squad as ‘miserable’, with many of the players convinced Ten Hag will be on his way this summer after such a dismal season.

After facing Arsenal at Old Trafford, United then host in-form Newcastle next week, before travelling to Brighton ahead of the FA Cup final against neighbours Manchester City. City beat United in the final last season, en-route to winning a historic Treble, and are strong favourites to repeat the victory this time round.

As well as suffering their biggest number of defeats in the Premier League era, United are on course for their lowest finish since the league was revamped in 1992. Their lowest finish in the Premier League came in 2014, when David Moyes was sacked after just 10 months in charge, with United finishing that campaign in seventh place.

Ten Hag’s side are currently languishing in eighth – and in serious danger of missing out on European football altogether. United have conceded 55 goals in the league this season, only two fewer than their previous worst total, which came in the 2021-22 campaign when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was replaced by interim boss Ralf Rangnick.

Gareth Southgate is the No.1 choice to replace Ten Hag, if Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his football operations team decide to make a managerial change this summer.
