Haaland explains what actually occurred with Guardiola ‘anger’ after substitution

Erling Haaland has set the record straight on his ‘anger’ towards Pep Guardiola after being taken off in Manchester City‘s thrashing of Wolves.

The prolific striker was seen exchanging words with the City gaffer when he was subbed in the 82nd during their spectacular 5-1 victory over Wolves last Saturday (May 4) where he bagged four goals.

While some thought Haaland was peeved at missing the chance to add to his impressive goal tally, the top scorer from last season’s Premier League campaign has quashed any rumours about his reaction to the substitution, reports the Mirror.

Chatting on the Men In Blazers podcast, Haaland clarified that his frustration was unrelated to being replaced by Julian Alvarez, who found the back of the net within three minutes of entering the pitch. “I was mad because [of] something completely different, it was nothing about that,” Haaland confessed.

He continued, expressing his team spirit: “I was super happy that Julian [Alvarez] came on and scored as well, of course I would love to score more goals but I wasn’t mad or anything about getting subbed off, I’m happy for the guy that got substituted on for me and that’s how it is”.

Achieving a Treble in his first season at Manchester City, Jack Grealish spoke glowingly of the spirit within Pep Guardiola’s squad. Adding to their trophy haul with a Premier League and FA Cup double is a distinct possibility as he highlighted on the team morale and camaraderie in the dressing room.

“I’ve said in a lot of interviews that, for me, the team I’m in now – and especially last year – it’s just unbelievable, the togetherness we have,” he said.

“Over the years, there have been so many top teams in the Premier League that haven’t done what we’ve done. That’s something we had so much of and we’ve got it this season as well. With the experience we have and the quality we have, we don’t really doubt ourselves.”
