UK climate to get hotter than Ibiza as 26C heatwave arrives for the weekend
The United Kingdom is set to bask in a glorious 26C heatwave this weekend, hotter than the party island of Ibiza.
The country is bracing for a sizzling heat blast from Iberia, ironically where Ibiza is situated, surpassing the hottest day of the year so far, which was a balmy 24C. And that is hotter than the idyllic island where there are highs of 20C on Friday, and highs of 22C on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Met Office predicted that yesterday (May 9) would be “another fine and dry day for all of us with plenty of warm sunshine and light winds.” And the coming days would get even better. The forecaster added: “UV levels are high, so take care when in the sun.”

The outlook for Friday night is also promising: “High pressure continues to dominate, bringing a dry day with plenty of sunny spells, perhaps with the odd shower through the afternoon. Feeling very warm in the sunshine.”
Friday could even see temperatures reach the mid-20s Celsius. The southeast of England was forecast to hit 25C at about 4pm on Friday, which is a stark contrast to last week’s chilly start to the month.
The Midlands was also forecasted a hot Friday afternoon, with the mercury touching 24C before an evening cool down. Elsewhere, the southwest might reach 20C, and Wales 23C.
Even the far reaches of Scotland could see temperatures creep into the 20s, with very little cloud cover in the sky.
Rain is unlikely to fall anywhere in the UK on Friday, aside from one or two incredibly light showers. Meanwhile, lows were expected to fall to 9C in northern Scotland and 15C in the Midlands.
As for the weekend, the forecast reads: “Remaining settled to start the weekend with warm sunny spells and the odd shower. Chance of heavy, thundery showers on Sunday before turning widely unsettled on Monday and feeling cooler.”
However, Ibiza will regain its crown on Monday. It’s expected to get cloudier, cooler and wetter as we start the new week here at home. There could even be some thunderstorms and strong winds by the middle of the week.
