‘I’m a boxer – my dad was murdered and I used to be stabbed so I struggle to save lots of lives’

On Saturday evening, when Adam Brooks walks out into The Troxy in London for Misfits’ latest boxing event he will have one simple message: Knives Down.

It’s the same message that pub landlord and GB News panelist Brooks, 44, has carried during his entire time in the social media promotion. Brooks explained to Daily Star Sport he wants to spread the message to help combat knife crime on British streets.

“I want parents, grandparents, uncles, teachers, anyone that has got a close relationship with children, and especially teenagers, to have that chat, the consequences chat with kids,” he said ahead of his bout.

“It’s not just gang members that carry knives, normal everyday kids walk the streets of not just London, but the country with knives.” Brooks knows the horrors of knife crime all too well – when he was just 11 years old, his dad was murdered in an attack.

Brooks added: “There’s not a day goes by when I don’t think about my dad. I didn’t lose my dad, my dad was taken away by a group of people and 30 years later, it still affects me. It’s a lifetime of pain if you go and use that knife. It ruins so many people’s lives.”

Brooks will face King Kenny at Misfits X Series 14 on Saturday evening. King Kenny is something of a Misfits regular at this point, boasting a record of 4-3 with two of his wins coming via KO. Brooks, meanwhile, is unbeaten, sitting at 2-0.

The Knives Down message will be hard to miss; it will be emblazoned on his gloves, his gum shield, his shorts, his boots and even on his entrance poncho.

Brooks, who himself has been stabbed, added: “I wouldn’t want any of my kids to go through some of the things that I’ve gone through.” And he admitted he’s worried for his son, adding he wants safer streets for the next generation.

Brooks isn’t just looking to spread the message, he wants people to take notice and have that conversation with people in their lives: “If we can stop them carrying them, stop them taking them out.

“You know, tell them they’re gonna go to prison and tell them they’re going to ruin lives. Ruin their own life. There may be some kids who listen, and that’s why I’m doing it.”

He said even if it’s just one life that’s changed, he’s done his job.

Brooks often uses social media to push the message too, using his platform with the hashtag Knives Down to try and combat knife crime.

“What I push on Twitter [X] is for adults to have that chat to their teenage kids or young kids and just tell them, even show them a prison cell.

“Say you’re gonna be in that for 15 years or 10 years, you know, if you use that. I think kids react sometimes to being shocked. And I do not believe that schools and parents are shocking their kids with the consequences of crime.”

Brooks and King Kenny’s match will be on the undercard of the Misfits schedule.

The card is set to be co-headlined by crossover boxing favourite Salt Papi’s bout with Polish MMA fighter Ferrari and Brazilian megastar Jully Pocca defending her MFB Women’s Cruiserweight Title against gothic influencer Barbie.
