Bournemouth have agreed a new contract with head coach Andoni Iraola.

The club have been in talks with Iraola over an extension to the two year deal he signed last summer following his arrival from Rayo Vallecano.

After a tricky start, the Spanish coach overseen an excellent season with the Cherries and had started to attract interest from a number of rival clubs heading into the summer.

But Iraola has shown his commitment to Bournemouth by agreeing a new contract with the Vitality Stadium club.

The news comes as a major boost for the south coast club ahead of the summer window.

The departure of sporting director Richard Hughes to Liverpool earlier this year arrived as a blow given the administrator’s standing in the game.

But Iraola’s impressive start to life in the Premier League comes at a key period to add stability heading into a crucial summer of recruitment.

The 41-year-old is building a reputation as one of the best emerging head coaches in Europe and his decision to extend his deal is symbolic of Bournemouth’s ambitions ahead of next season.

It is likely bigger clubs will continue to monitor Iraola, who was a target for Leeds last year, into next season.

But the former Spain international will remain with Bournemouth for the foreseeable future.
