Meghan pressured to vary Nigeria outfit after ‘getting pressing memo to slot in’

Meghan Markle has confessed to a quick wardrobe change during her trip to Nigeria with Prince Harry, in an effort to “fit in”. The Duchess of Sussex took a brief break from Harry on Saturday to co-host a panel event on Women in Leadership.

Meghan sported three different outfits that day, attending various events as part of the couple’s unofficial “royal tour” of the African nation. However, it was her final outfit of the evening, a vibrant red dress, that stole the show. The stunning maxi dress, designed by Nigerian designer Orire and priced under £230, was reportedly a last-minute choice.

While addressing the audience, Meghan shared: “It has been a whirlwind 24 hours since we arrived, and I very quickly got the memo that I need to wear more colour so I can fit in with all of you in your incredible fashion.”

According to a genealogy test, Meghan recently found out she is 43 percent Nigerian. Upon discovering this, she called her mum, saying it was “exciting” for both of them, reports the Mirror.

She had previously mentioned that being African-American means “really not knowing so much about your lineage or background, where you come from specifically”.

“It’s been really eye-opening and humbling to be able to know more about my heritage and to be able to know this is just the beginning of that discovery,” she previously shared.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex touched down in Abuja, Nigeria, as dawn broke on Friday. Post-arrival, the Royal pair made a beeline for a local school, engaging with the kids and delivering powerful talks on mental health. Meghan even snagged some cheeky selfies with the students at Lights Academy, while Harry playfully photobombed his missus.

Snaps from the Sussexes’ whirlwind tour have surfaced, showing Meghan gracing a talk show set. This follows an emotional address by Harry at a school event on Friday. Addressing the young audience and attendees, he said: “In some places around the world, more than you would believe, there is a stigma against mental health. Too many people don’t want to talk about it because it’s invisible, it’s in your mind and we can’t see it.”

The Sussex duo are travelling through Nigeria on a 72-hour visit. This African adventure comes hot on the heels of Harry’s fleeting return to Blighty, jetting back right after his son, Prince Archie, celebrated his fifth birthday.
