Douglas Luiz has reignited his long-running social media feud with Rio Ferdinand after calling out the Manchester United legend in the wake of Aston Villa qualifying for the Champions League.
Luiz and his Villa compatriots enjoyed a wild night of celebrations on Tuesday as Tottenham‘s 2-0 defeat against title-chasers Man City secured fourth place and a spot in the Champions League for Unai Emery‘s side.
The Brazilian – who is enduring a difficult patch of personal form – previously clashed online with Ferdinand in the wake of Man United‘s away win at Villa Park earlier in the season and has again sought out the former England star.
Luiz was previously mocked by Ferdinand and United fans earlier in the season for his celebration prior to Scott McTominay‘s late winner that saw the creative midfielder shimmy in front of departing Red Devils star Raphael Varane.
Now he has taken the opportunity to get one over on Ferdinand as Villa reached the Champions League at the expense of Tottenham, Man United and Chelsea.

Ferdinand previously trolled Luiz online for the Brazilian’s celebration after scoring against Man United earlier in the season
Taking to X amidst celebrations that were underway at Villa’s end-of-season awards dinner, Luiz called out Ferdinand by posting: ‘ I just came here to find out if Rio Ferdinand is okay?’.
Villa fans and football supporters immediately latched onto the post that has now been viewed over 4million times and quickly caught Ferdinand’s attention who issued a simple, but, brilliant response.
While Villa have established their place amongst Europe’s elite, there is scepticism over how far they will go in UEFA’s top competition after recently being knocked out the Conference League at the semi-final stage by Greek side Olympiacos.
Ferdinand was clearly of the same thinking as he sought to silence Luiz by sharing a picture of himself holding the Champions League title after Man United beat Chelsea in 2008 to claim the title.
The 45-year-old additionally applauded Luiz and his Villa team-mate for their achievement, adding: ‘Congrats Douglas Luiz… Champions League football thoroughly deserved next season’ alongside a handshake emoji.
The hilarious exchange continues the unlikely duos online feud and gave Luiz a chance to get one back on the United legend who has become one of football’s most recognisable pundits since retiring from playing.

Luiz was previously called out by Ferdinand who stated after Villa’s defeat against United: ‘U ok Douglas Luiz?’ alongside a series of laughing emojis and a picture of the Brazilian doing his shimmy celebration.
The 26-year-old responded at the time by explaining his celebration, stating: ‘I’m good, thanks it’s just carnaval time in Brazil.’
Villa’s celebrations are likely to be dragged out throughout the remainder of the week after the club reached the Champions League for the first time in their history.
Meanwhile, Ferdinand’s Man United are in a scrap to qualify for the UEFA Conference League, but would gain a place in the Europa League if they beat rivals Man City in the FA Cup final.
