Ederson dominated out of Man City title decider with fractured eye socket

Ederson will miss Manchester City’s bid to win the Premier League title on Sunday with a fractured eye socket.

The Brazilian goalkeeper will sit out the crunch showdown with West Ham after being sidelined for the remainder of the season. The goalkeeper suffered the facial injury during the 2-0 win at Tottenham on Tuesday, which put the club on the brink of an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League crown.

Scans confirmed a fracture to the player’s right eye. He will also miss the FA Cup final against Manchester United – and faces a battle to be fit in time for the Copa America, which starts on June 24.

The blow is a nightmare end to the season for Ederson, who has had a huge role in City’s success. It means Stefan Ortega, who produced some brilliant saves after replacing Ederson at Tottenham, will be handed an unexpected chance to help City clinch a league and cup Double.

A City statement said: “ Manchester City can confirm Ederson will miss the final two games of the season due to a small fracture of his eye socket.” City were criticised for allowing Ederson to continue in the game, before deciding to haul him off minutes later.

But it’s understood Ederson did not suffer concussion and passed the medical protocols at the time, before Pep Guardiola decided to substitute him with Ortega.
