PGA Championship – Day One: Leaderboard, tee occasions and updates

BREAKING NEWS: Play delayed

This just in from PGA Championship officials:

‘AM starting times for the first round of the 2024 PGA Championship are delayed 10 minutes due to fog.’

So that’s Michael Block, Luke Donald and Shaun Micheel now heading out at 7:25am local time.

Rory McIlroy latest

Before the golf gets underway, it would be remiss of us to not mention the story that has dominated the headlines leading into this tournament: Rory McIlroy’s divorce from his wife Erica Stoll.

Although the media were warned about questioning McIlroy on the subject, it’s fair to say it was a huge shock – with the news dropping just three days out from the start of play this morning.

McIlroy filed the divorce papers in Florida on Monday, and has been putting on a brave face

So who’s out first?

There’s British and American interest in the first group out at Valhalla this morning, with England’s Luke Donald heading out alongside Michael Block (remember him?) and Shaun Micheel.

Block will have very, very fond memories of this tournament, having shot to fame last year with his 15th-placed finish.

Hello and welcome!

Morning all, and welcome to Mail Sport’s live blog for round one of the PGA Championship from Valhalla in Kentucky. Been a quiet week, wouldn’t you say?

Amid all the drama, attention now turns to the golf, with the first players teeing off in the next 10 minutes. For many (Rory, we’re looking at you), some actual competitive on-course action has been a long time coming.

Stay with us throughout the day for all the latest…
