The release date for eagerly-anticipated video game Grand Theft Auto VI has been narrowed down in an announcement that will excite gaming fans worldwide.

The latest instalment in the Grand Theft Auto (GTA) franchise comes more than a decade after its predecessor – GTA V – was released in September 2013.

One of the most successful video game franchises of all time, fans are understandably excited by any news surrounding GTA VI given they have to wait so long for a new game.

However, eagle-eyed gamers have spotted a clue as to when GTA VI could be released.

That hint came courtesy of publisher Take Two’s end-of-year financial report, which saw it post release dates for upcoming games developed by the brand.

A screenshot of the report said that console versions on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S are scheduled for release in autumn 2025.

No information was revealed over the potential landing date of a version on PC.

Reacting to the news on X, formerly Twitter, GTA fans were quick to express a mixture of emotions at the news.

One user posted a screenshot of their own marketing roadmap prediction, which fitted with the potential release date posted by Take-Two, as the individual concerned estimated it would be released between November and December 2025.

Another was frustrated by the length of time they would have to wait for the game to drop should the date turn out to be accurate, posting: ‘We got two summers before GTA 6’.

Another bemoaned: ‘It’s hard to wait so long, longer than we expected and even with the announcement they still got us waiting to play this’.

A more upbeat gamer appeared to have their plans in place for its release, whenever it turned out to be, as they wrote: ‘I will be taking a two-week vacation when this drops’.

A further user pointed to the length of time it took to release GTA V on PC, as it did not become available to play on the platform until April 2015, nearly two years after being released on console.

They joked: ‘Can’t wait for this to hit PC in 2035’.

A statement from Take-Two accompanying the report said: ‘As we enter Fiscal 2025 with positive momentum, we expect to deliver Net Bookings of $5.55 to $5.65 billion. Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games’ previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto 6.

‘We are highly confident that Rockstar Games will deliver an unparalleled entertainment experience, and our expectations for the commercial impact of the title continue to increase.’

The company added that they : ‘Looking ahead, we believe that our Company is poised to achieve new levels of success, and we expect to deliver sequential growth in Net Bookings for Fiscal 2025, 2026, and 2027.’
