Harry and Meghan planning extra ‘royal-style excursions’ after Nigeria journey success

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are already planning more royal-style tours following their successful Nigerian trip.

The Duke and Duchess were elated with their reception and the media coverage during their three-day tour, and are now considering a potential African return among their future jaunts.

Their plans come after the pair have spent the last few years nesting in California, raising their two small children and focusing on their various media projects.

The couple’s Nigerian tour was so successful, they are planning future trips

A royal insider told the Mirror: “The Duke and Duchess have other trips planned for the remainder of the year. They are hoping to be able to share more details in the coming weeks. It is definitely possible they could return to Africa for more tours after that.”

Harry, 39, and Meghan, 42, jetted off to Nigeria to promote their Archewell Foundation’s mental health projects and the Invictus Games, which saw Nigeria compete for the first time last year.

Their itinerary included hobnobbing with military top brass, wounded warriors, and schoolchildren, who all gave them a hero’s welcome.

Meghan, who found out she’s 43% Nigerian through a DNA test last year, was over the moon with the reception in what she calls “my country”, reports the Mirror.

Africa has long held a special place in the couple’s hearts. They had a magical getaway to Botswana for their third date back in 2016 – just a year before Harry popped the question with a diamond sourced from the same country.

They returned for a more extended celebration of Meghan’s 36th birthday, and the pair’s first royal tour was a ten-day journey through South Africa, Botswana, Angola, and Malawi in 2019.

Harry’s affection for Africa burgeoned in March 2004 during an eight-week stint in Lesotho as part of his gap year, where he struck up a friendship with Prince Seeiso, whose mother had passed away shortly before Harry’s visit.

Harry, who tragically lost his own mother Diana in a Paris car crash in August 1997, went on to co-found the charity Sentebale with Prince Seeiso.

Reflecting on the Nigeria tour, Harry said: “We look forward to travelling more because the work matters.”

“Whether it’s the Archewell Foundation, Invictus or any of our other causes, there will always be reasons to meet the people at the heart of our work.”

Describing Africa as a “very, very special place” Harry also said: “You know what Africa means to me over the years. To be able to include Nigeria now [in Invictus], I’m very happy.”
