King Charles and Rishi Sunak huge wealthy listing winners – whose pockets are deeper?
King Charles and the country’s Prime Minister are among the richest people in the nation, as the annual rich list has been released.
Perhaps surprisingly at surface level, Rishi Sunak (with help from his wife) is even richer than King Charles. Sunak and Akshata Murty’s joint fortune is driven largely by her stake in Infosys, an Indian IT company her father founded.
The couple are the 245th richest people in the whole of Britain, according to the Sunday Times Rich List 2024, which orders Britain’s 350 wealthiest people. It is an increase from 275th last year. They are the wealthiest couple to ever enter No10 with a fortune of £651million, a £122million increase from £529million in 2023.

Their surge in wealth comes despite an unprecedented demand for food parcels as the cost of living crisis decimates normal Brits.
Between April 2023 and March 2024, the Trussell Trust distributed more than 3.1 million emergency food parcels via food banks — the most parcels ever distributed by the network in a year.
The King’s fortune is hardly paltry in comparison to the PM, and he certainly won’t be needing a food bank, but Sunak and Murty did leapfrog the monarch in the rankings.
The Rich List estimates the King is worth £610million – putting him in 258th place – and up from £600million in 2023.
Among those who achieved their fortune via meritocracy, and actually working for it, was Paul McCartney who has become a billionaire Beatle after seeing his wealth grow another £50milion in the past year.
This leap in income was achieved after touring, and the lucrative value of his back catalogue.
Sir Paul, who grew up in a post-war terraced house in Allerton in south Liverpool, is worth considerably more than the King Charles.
At the top is Indian-born British businessman Gopi Hinduja and his family, with a wealth is put at almost £37.2billion, up from £35billion last year and the largest fortune ever recorded in the history of the Rich List.
Chemicals magnate Sir Jim Ratcliffe, second on last year’s list, has fallen to fourth, with a fortune £23.5billion. It comes after he bought a stake in Manchester United.
Also released was The Sunday Times 40 under 40 Rich List, featuring the likes of singers Adele and Dua Lipa and England football captain Harry Kane.
