Six-year-old British woman is pulled from Tenerife lodge pool

A six-year-old British girl was pulled from a hotel pool in Tenerife 50 minutes after a lifeguard had clocked off, according to reports. 

Local police have launched an investigation into the incident in Spain last week.

It occurred on May 9 at around 6.50pm at the Granada Park Aparthotel pool in Los Cristianos, on the southwest coast of Tenerife.

Investigators are working to establish where the young girl’s parents were at the time, and why there was no lifeguard present at the pool, local reports said.

Emergency services received a call requesting medical assistance for the girl who had been rescued from the pool by other guests and staff.

The rescuers are reported to have performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on the girl as soon as she was pulled from the water.

According to Canarian Weekly, the girl was conscious and very scared when a nearby police unit arrived at the scene.

A few minutes later, an abulance arrived and she was taken to a nearby medical centre. There, she was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia, which is caused by someone inhaling liquid into their respiratory tract of lungs.

Hospital staff were able to stabilise her, but due to the severity of her condition, she has since been transferred to a paediatric emergency department.
