Wetherspoons pub ‘begins revolution’ by introducing strict rule on queueing
A Wetherspoons pub has been lauded for breaking with a seemingly unpopular queuing system plaguing boozers nationwide.
A pub crusader, under the X handle @QueuesPub, is devoted to “campaigning to end the recent phenomenon of queuing single file in pubs”. Earlier this week they shared a snap originally posted by fellow X user @cufcmike from The Lifeboat, a Wetherspoons in Formby.
The image shows a sign at the Merseyside establishment that reads: “Please stand at the bar to be served. Thank you.” It led to QueuesPub to proudly declare: “The first Wetherspoons to break ranks, a vital moment in the campaign. Formby.”

One X user declared in response: “The revolution begins!” Another said: “Wetherspoons was ground zero for this plague so I’m glad they’re taking responsibility and doing something about it.”
A third took aim at customers who have happily queued up in single file in the past: “Stand at the bar, all along. Don’t queue. A proper barman can cope with that. Queuing came in post lockdown and is an abomination.”
A fourth offered the same stance: “I was in a pub on the river in London last week, queue had formed out the door. Bypassed that and went straight to the bar and was served immediately. Be brave! We can fight back.”
While a fifth chimed in: “Queuing in a pub makes it look like a coach load of tourists have just been dropped off for their pre-paid roast and pint of bitter.”
QueuesPub frequently posts pictures of punters stuck in long queues, criticising pub queuing policies that have continued despite social restrictions being lifted following the Covid-19 pandemic.
A representative for J D Wetherspoon declined to comment on the matter.
