Arsenal followers cannot watch ‘cringe’ video of Emirates’ Prem trophy carry rehearsal

Arsenal staff have seemingly been caught on camera rehearsing a mock trophy lift in anticipation of potentially clinching the Premier League title.

The Gunners still have a shot at their first title in two decades on the final day, albeit it’s unlikely, because Mikel Arteta‘s squad are trailing Manchester City by two points. They need to triumph over Everton and rely on West Ham to stall Pep Guardiola’s team in their respective final matches.

Despite needing a bit of luck to hoist the trophy, it seems preparations for victory are already in motion. A video circulating on social media reveals club staff stepping onto the winners’ podium next to the plinth bearing the trophy.

It seems they also received faux medals – just as the players would if the North London team are crowned champions. A large banner emblazoned with ‘Champions’ was also displayed on the pitch. In preparation for the final day, the Premier League has also made arrangements, reports the Mirror.

Fans branded the footage “cringe” and “embarrassing” on social media, with many Arsenal fans saying they wish they hadn’t seen it. One supporter wrote: “My head is glued to my hands.” Another said: “Banter material.” A third commented: “Are you f***ing kidding me?”

However, other Gunners fans pointed out the same rehearsals were likely taking place at City’s stadium, with one posting: “Arsenal? The FA is doing it. It’s common practice.”

A trophy will be stationed at both the Emirates Stadium and Etihad Stadium, with a skilled engraver ready to inscribe the eventual champions’ name onto the trophy. A set of identical medals will also be dispatched to each of the stadiums for presentation.

While trophy lift rehearsals have already occurred, Arsenal have also revealed plans for an open-top bus parade. The procession will weave through the streets of Islington on Monday, May 20.

Arteta is buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming crunch time, revealing in his pre-match notes: “It’s one of the biggest weeks for many of us, and certainly now is the most important moment. I’m really excited and can’t wait for Sunday to be in front of us, and obviously I’m very optimistic as well with the possible outcome.”

Laying out the stakes, he said: “The hope was there and it didn’t happen and now we have to do our job which is going to be tough because Everton are in a really good moment, so we’re going have to prove again that we can be better than the opponent and win the game.”

He’s also got his fingers crossed for a bit of help from the Hammers. He said: “Then we have to wish for the best and for West Ham to have a really good day and help us to fulfil our dream. That’s what we’re hoping for.”

When quizzed on whether he fancies City to slip up, Arteta admitted: “We all know that they are a little bit closer because that’s one game less and they have to play at home, but they’re going play a really tough opponent.”

He knows the challenge well, adding: “We have suffered this season and over the last few seasons, it is really tough to beat them. I’m sure they’re going to be very at it and hopefully they can help us to achieve our dream.”
