Boxing followers rage at rapper ‘shut up’ till Fury makes ring stroll to ‘bangers’

On a historic night in Riyadh, as the first undisputed heavyweight world title clash since 1999 happened, Tyson Fury’s entrance to the ring was a fitting way to begin the action.

The Gypsy King is a true showman both in and out of the ring, and his pre-fight antics have always been box office and ahead of his huge bout against Oleksandr Usyk in Saudi Arabia, he had fans eating out the palm of his hand again.

The defending WBC heavyweight champion’s arrival followed the Saudi Arabian national anthem and a live performance from rapper JID but fans were far from happy as they were forced to wait for the main event.

One fan on Twitter ranted: “Seriously who the f*** is the rapper on this Fury v Usyk fight?” A second added: “No one wants this! Get them out! Taking the p***,” while a third moaned: Get this PG rated 13 “rapper” off my telly now and get Fury’s a** out in the ring.”

A fourth complained: “Lets just watch USYK & Fury both batter this mumble rapper instead.” A fifth wrote: “I wish both Fury and Usyk knocked out that rapper!” With another adding: “Give Fury his due, always has some bangers on for the walkout”.

But Fury brought the party, walking out alongside his dad John and his sons as he sang Barry White before Bonnie Taylor’s Holding Out For A Hero as he ran to the ring with fireworks and pyrotechnics firing all around him. The Gypsy King then got into the face of Usyk just moments before the Great Britain and Ukraine national anthem played.

One fan said: “Barry White into Bonnie Tyler, one has to admire Tyson Fury’s taste in music.” Another commented: “Why has Usyk came out all patriotic and Fury has came out to f***ing Barry White, Bonnie Tyler and f***ing Stone Cold Steve Austin on his top hahaha.”

Fury previously appeared at the face-off with the Ukrainian wearing just a waistcoat and a hat before refusing to look Usyk in the eye. But he lost his cool just a matter of hours later as he pushed and launched an expletive rant at the 37-year-old at the weigh-in.
