Moises Caicedo nets ‘purpose of the season’ from his personal half on the ultimate day
Chelsea have been handed a European lifeline after Moises Caicedo netted from inside of his own half on Sunday.
The Blues could still earn a European berth on the final day of the season when they welcomed Bournemouth to west London. And with under 20 minutes on the clock, Caicedo, 22, found himself with space in the centre of the field and Neto in no man’s land.
The Ecuadorian picked up his head and took a pop – looping the ball over the Brazilian and into the back of the net. “Perfect as well because it didn’t bounce. Landed perfectly in the back of the net. Just lovely,” one fan gushed.

Chelsea’s win over Brighton in the week saw them move up to sixth – they could finish as high as fifth when the full-time whistle is sounded, but they will need a favour from already relegated Sheffield United when they host Tottenham.
However, before looking up the table, the Blues have to keep checking over their shoulders.
Newcastle can leap frog Chelsea and bag a spot in the Europa League if they beat Brentford and the Blues lose. Chelsea will also have to hope Manchester City beat bitter rivals Manchester United next weekend in the FA Cup final – as a United win would see them qualify for the Europa League instead.
