Pep admits he is nearer to leaving than staying at City after profitable the Prem

Pep Guardiola admitted it felt “insane” to lead Manchester City to a historic four titles in a row.

City beat West Ham 3-1 at the Etihad to become the first team in 136 years of English football to achieve the feat. Guardiola, who celebrated with his stars on the pitch after lifting the trophy, has now won the Premier League six times in the last seven seasons.

The Spaniard never dreamt of such domestic dominance when he took charge of City back in 2016 – and believes his side will go down as one of the all-time greats.

Guardiola said: “When I moved here, if someone had said I would win six leagues in seven seasons, I would say ‘you’re insane – no way’. All these players for Manchester United and Liverpool and Chelsea, all these teams. Now is our period. We are part of that.

“I’m not saying I’m a bad manager, but I have incredible support from the club. We have this work ethic, everyone does their job and every department is so important. This is the truth and the reality.”

But Guardiola dropped a bombshell – after admitting next season could be his last as City boss. He added: “The reality is I am closer to leaving than staying.

“We have talked with the club. My feeling is that I want to stay now. I will stay next season and during the season we will talk. But eight or nine years – we will see.”

Phil Foden, who fired City ahead with a stunning strike after just 76 seconds, hailed the ‘special’ achievement – then admitted he’d never tire of winning more trophies.

Foden said: “It is hard to put into words what we’ve done. We have put ourselves into the history books. It’s a special moment. To do it means we are up there (with the best teams of all time).

“I never get bored of it, you want this feeling every time. When you win something there is no better feeling. I want to keep winning as much as I can.”

Following his final game as West Ham boss, David Moyes joined in the appreciation of Guardiola and City.

He said: “There used to be an argument that clubs couldn’t win the title back-to-back. He has blown that sky-high. Four in a row is incredible. Everyone in football is in awe of his coaching. His ability to manage is second to none.”
