Brit spends six months remodeling ‘knackered’ narrowboat into gorgeous Airbnb

A savvy Brit has turned a “knackered” narrowboat into a lush Airbnb pad as fans clamour to book it.

The user, known as @_JamaicaJamaica on Twitter, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share pics of the space, which now features a chic living area, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.

Set to make waves on Airbnb later this week, the boat – currently moored in East London – boasts a cosy heating system, a shower, and even a turntable for vinyl lovers. With clever storage solutions throughout, it’s the ideal spot for a quirky city break.

“Spent the last 6 months (in my spare time) renovating a knackered 50 ft narrowboat into a floating Air BnB as a side hustle,” the DIY whizz posted on Monday (May 21). “Finally finished it.”

The post has since garnered plenty of attention on social media, with staycationers hoping to spend a night aboard the boat. Others focused more on the craftsmanship.

“This is really cute,” said one admirer. “Narrowboats aren’t wheelchair/crutch friendly for me but they always look so nice for a different type of getaway! I really love the bathroom sink and the matching copper shower! You did a great job.”

One fan gushed: “Well done Sir. Beautiful work. I’d LOVE to stay on that boat. Excellent.”

Another was equally impressed, commenting: “Wow… stunning. Quirky and fashionable… Best of luck, sure it’ll be a huge success.”

Another added: “Absolutely stunning! You are so clever. It’s beautiful. My parents lived on their narrow boat for 9 years. Didn’t renovate it but they loved it. Ash wood inside.”

Some even noticed some of the materials used inside the boat. One wrote: “Looks lovely, you’ve done a good job. I like the wooden floor in the living area and behind the bed in the cabin.”

Airbnb launched in 2007 when two hosts opened up their San Francisco home to three guests. Fast forward to today, and there are more than five million hosts globally who have so far welcomed an eye-watering 1.5 billion guests.

Earlier this month, Airbnb dropped its financial results for the first quarter of 2024. Co-Founder and CEO Brian Chesky announced: “We had our best Q1 ever, with 133 million nights and experiences booked, along with double-digit supply growth across all regions. I’m proud of our strong Q1 results and look forward to another record summer travel season.”
