McDonald’s employee caught ‘drying soiled mop underneath heater’ subsequent to French fries

A McDonald’s worker was caught drying a dirty mop head in a French fry warmer, right next to the restaurant’s famous chips.

The worker was spotted holding the detachable mop head, which did not appear to be clean, underneath a heat lamp just inches away from the mountain of fresh fries about to be served up to customers.

A photo of the bizarre incident at the McDonald’s branch near Brisbane, Australia, went viral after it was posted on Facebook, Daily Mail Australia reports.

While some berated the female employee for not following health and safety procedures at the fast food restaurant, others saw the funny side of the unusual drying technique.

One commenter said: “So that’s where the flavour comes from…” while another added: “The old McMop is back! It must be limited-time only – get in while they are hot.” Another said they “bet the mop head is warmer than the fries”.

However one angry commenter wrote: ““That’s the most brainless thing I’ve seen this year. This woman needs her hygiene and food safety procedure certificate ripped up!”.

McDonald’s said staff at the restaurant in Booval have been spoken to. A McDonald’s spokesperson said:“We have addressed this with the restaurant directly and conducted thorough re-training for all employees on McDonald’s sanitisation, hygiene and food safety procedures,” they said.

“This was an isolated incident, and we will continue to work with the restaurant to ensure this does not happen again.”
