Stunning residence goes on the market – however house-hunters discover ‘unsettling’ hidden characteristic

House-hunters looking for a place to buy have been left “unsettled” by a peculiar room in a new property listing.

The five-bedroom bungalow near York is up for grabs for offers around £695,000 and sits on an impressive 1.5 acre plot. However, something isn’t quite right.

A user on Reddit‘s Spotted on Rightmove subreddit was left confused by the house’s “really weird” bathroom, which boasts a purple toilet, sink and jacuzzi bath. In contrast, the rest of the listing is much more demure with muted tones adorning most of the rooms.

The post was captioned: “Nothing rhymes with purple”, with the user adding: “Just remember, at some point someone had this installed and thought ‘Cor, that looks absolutely fantastic.'”

And fellow Redditors were quick to comment. “The juxtaposition between the purple bathtub and toilet and the bare grey walls and carpet is really unsettling,” said one.

Another concurred: “I thought that too. I wonder if it’s been painted and recarpeted in the hope that removing the personality will make it more sellable. The loo cistern has a massive white splodge on it that suggests a hasty paint job and there is an odd bit of purple coming through on the work surface.”

A third chimed in: “I was so perplexed by the purple facilities that I didn’t even notice that the whole room is carpeted. This is some horror s**t.”

A fourth critic pointed out: “This is a double decor crime right here. Not only are they committing the ultimate sin of having a carpeted bathroom (mold and humidity galore! ) but it’s one hell of a colour scheme clash too. The sink looks like it was converted from a desk so I can imagine this used to just be someone’s office until, I assume, they had some kind of mid-life crisis.”

Estate Agent Ashtons description of the property states: “The property offers large 5 bedroom accommodation as a true bungalow, which obviously leaves scope for the possible development of the large roof void for further accommodation should this be required.”

The house also boasts a semi-rural location with splendid open views facing west across open countryside at the back, all while being less than a mile from the well-served village of Copmanthorpe and just over 4 miles from the city centre itself.

And not everyone was put off by the bizarrely-coloured bathroom. One user remarked: “I actually like the purple bathroom suite,” explaining, “But I do love purple. Hate the carpet though, carpet in a bathroom is so yucky.”

Another commented: “Agree. I would never BUY a purple bathroom suite, but I sure wouldn’t rip it out either. That carpet, however, would have to go.”
