Man Utd know Sir Alex Ferguson’s view on Pochettino as INEOS ‘shortlist’ boss
Sir Alex Ferguson has previously tipped Mauricio Pochettino to take over at Manchester United.
Despite a strong finish to the Premier League season that saw Chelsea win their last five matches and secure a top-six position, Pochettino surprisingly left the club. The ex-Tottenham Hotspur boss’ Stamford Bridge exit was a ‘mutual consent’ agreement following an internal review conducted by sporting directors Paul Winstanley, Laurence Stewart, and co-owner Behdad Eghbali.
With Erik ten Hag’s position at United still uncertain, Pochettino has, once again, emerged as a candidate to take over at United. Previous history suggests Ferguson would give a move for the Argentine his seal of approval.

Pochettino was linked with the Red Devils during his tenures at Spurs and PSG. No move ever came to fruition, and those rumours were put to rest as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, and Ten Hag were appointed instead.
Yet, the future of the latter at Old Trafford is up in the air after being eliminated from the Champions League in the group stages and finishing the season eighth in the Premier League.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe is also understood to be an admirer of Pochettino having reportedly considered him to take over at his other club Nice.

Should Pochettino become the next United manager, it’s likely that Ferguson would endorse the move. In 2021, TalkSPORT reported that the United legend was advocating for Pochettino to replace Solskjaer following the Norwegian’s dismissal.
Pochettino was considered alongside then Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers and Ten Hag. After Michael Carrick and Rangnick both served as interim managers for United, the board ultimately chose Ten Hag.
The report suggested that Ferguson viewed Pochettino as the ideal candidate to lead United forward. It also indicated that discussions were taking place between representatives of United and Pochettino.
Other reports suggested that Pochettino declined United’s approach as he was hoping to succeed Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid.
At the time, the renowned Italian manager was under scrutiny at the Bernabeu but went on to secure his second Champions League title with Los Blancos.
This summer, United have also been associated with former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel and England manager Gareth Southgate.
