Narinder Kaur says ‘upskirting’ seems like ‘being assaulted each day’
The broadcaster Narinder Kaur described her ‘upskirting’ ordeal as being ‘assaulted every day’ after Laurence Fox uploaded an intimate picture of her onto social media.
Ms Kaur, 51, said the reaction to the picture, thought to be taken over a decade ago, from social media bullies left her feeling as though she were a ‘laughingstock’.
The successful actress who contributes to Good Morning Britain used to work with Fox and was left devastated after he shared the picture on X, on 30 April to his 500,000 followers.
While enjoying a friend’s birthday at the Mayfair’s Park Lane hotel, London, with a media crowd including panellists on the Jeremy Vine show, she was told about the picture which she described as: ‘unimaginably mortifying.’
The tweet from Mr Fox- who traded an acting career to become a political activist- was picked up by Andrew Tate and Tommy Robinson who are also on the far right of the political spectrum.
Narinder Kaur says the ‘upskirting’ picture of her has left her feeling like she is being assaulted
Police are investigating after Laurence Fox (pictured) was criticised for sharing an ‘upskirt photo’ of broadcaster Narinder Kaur on social media
Ms Kaur was labelled a ‘slut’ by followers of Mr Fox, while Tate questioned if she was a victim of human trafficking, and Robinson brought up her previous OnlyFans page.
Speaking to The Times, Ms Kaur said: ‘It is like being assaulted every day, every time I tweet or go online, being called names again and again to the point where either I come off social media altogether — but that’s part of my job — or I carry on.’
‘I didn’t want to be a victim and I’m trying not to think it’s my fault.
‘It’s possible I didn’t have the right underwear that night, well over a decade ago, and worried the seam would show through the dress.
‘Now I think, why did I do that? Why have I put myself at risk? But also, why am I having to justify this?’
Broadcaster Narinder Kaur complained to the police about the matter who interviewed her
Ms Kaur complained to the police after friends told her the image was online.
She praised the police’s fast response- within 20 minutes of her making a complaint- but has since grown frustrated with delays in the case, adding she feels ‘fobbed off’.
After the complaint was made a spokesman for the MET police said: ‘We have been made aware of a post on social media regarding an up-skirting offence and we are currently investigating the circumstances.’
No suggestion is being made that Mr Fox, 45, has committed an offence himself.
After her article in The Times was published, Ms Kaur expressed her feelings about the matter in a series of tweets today, in which she said she felt ‘humiliated.
She wrote: ‘What Laurence Fox did to me was humiliating. Every day is like being assaulted since.’
Adding shortly afterwards: ‘Whether I wear knickers or not is my choice.
‘Whether I have an OF (Only Fans) account or not again – my choice.
‘What isn’t my choice is being upskirted and certain men using that image to humiliate me on their platform.’
There was outrage after Mr Fox posted the photo which he has deleted having at first stood by his decision to upload it saying: ‘It’s not my fault she forgot to put her pants on’.
Adding: ‘I didn’t take the photo and I didn’t forget to put my pants on. Jog on.’
But many supported Ms Kaur and expressed similar sentiments of shock and outrage.
Ms Kaur, whose career spans from Big Brother to hosting her own show ‘Undercover Lovers’ and a series of films added: ‘He seems to justify himself by pointing out I once had an OnlyFans account.’
Mr Fox created the Reclaim Party and has stood for public office in London- arguing he is champion of free speech and seeks to defend British values.
When he posted the image of Ms Kaur he was standing in the London Mayoral elections to become a London Assembly member on 2 May- which he failed to do.
Two years ago he played the son of American President Joe Biden, in ‘My Son Hunter’.
Mr Fox through the The Reclaim Party has been approached for comment.
