Would you wish to see Meghan Markle run for US President – have your say
Meghan Markle could “queue jump” her way into The White House after being backed by political experts for a potential presidency bid – and we want to hear YOUR thoughts.
Following the Duke and Duchess’ successful Nigeria tour, Suits co-star Erika Alexander claimed that Meghan is “heading to the White House,” as she supported her possible move to President of the United States. Speaking to the MailOnline, a political insider from liberal California explained that Meghan could follow in Donald Trump’s footsteps and “queue jump” into a high US political office.
The 77-year-old remains the only American president to have had no previous political service before taking the top role. The source said: “She [Meghan] has her eyes on the prize,” while another insider added: “The buy-your-success thing is more suited as a Republican play. Meghan has political ambitions but like most celebrities or business people, they are not ready to put in the graft to get there.
“Maybe Oprah Winfrey could pull it off. But she’s put in the hard yards in other ways. Meghan hasn’t done anything.” Royal expert Michael Cole has voiced his thoughts on Meghan’s route to presidency, as he told GB News: “Maybe this is, shall we say, the third act in the drama of her life. [The] first act being a successful actress in a legal soap, [the] second act [is] marrying a royal prince and becoming a royal duchess [and the] third act [is] politics.
“Plenty of people have gone into it, there are presidents and maybe that’s what [Meghan] sees herself doing.” If the Duchess decides to embark on a political career, Prince Harry would be urged to become a US citizen in order to cement his wife’s bid
Historian and US politics expert Professor Christopher Phelps also told the publication: “It would be a great story. The British prince who loved her so much he gave up his British citizenship to become an American. There would be no requirement for him to do it – but he would have to if she wanted to have any credibility.”
He added that Meghan could mirror Ronald Regan, who was an actor before becoming Governor of California and going on to become the 40th president from 1981 to 1989. Similarly, The Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger was a Hollywood icon before turning to US politics.
The University of Nottingham teacher added that while Meghan’s name “will open doors”, it’s not possible to just say “you all know who I am – vote for me.” He continued: “She will need to have some substance on policy. Americans want to know how she would protect their jobs, where she stand of tax and to tackle crime in their neighbourhoods.”
Meanwhile, Nile Gardiner, a foreign policy analyst and one of Margaret Thatcher’s former aides, took to social media to claim that there is no chance Meghan will ever make it to the White House due to one key reason. Taking to X, Mr Gardiner wrote: “Utterly ridiculous.
“Meghan Markle has zero qualifications for running for president or public office, and has zero chance of ever making it to the White House.” Following the latest on Meghan’s potential political bid, we want to know if you would like to see the Duchess run for US President.
