Brit bloke on boozy stag do finally ends up shopping for £20k cafe for his spouse on Facebook

A boozy bloke on a stag do in Portugal ended up buying his missus a cafe as an anniversary surprise, splurging over £20k in the process.

Scot Griffiths, 42, was necking beers with pals when he stumbled across a Facebook ad for a cafe sale and thought, “Why not? “. After a quick chat with a seller who was chummy with his cousin, Scot sealed the deal then and there.

Back home, he floored his wife Lia, 33, with the keys to her new business as a pressie for their fifth anniversary together. The window fitter dad-of-two said: “It all happened pretty fast.”

“I was over in Portugal on my best mate’s stag do and it’d been a crazy weekend with loads of beers. We were having some down time by the pool and I was scrolling through Facebook and suddenly this advert for a cafe near me popped up.

“I said to my mate ‘Lia would love that, what do you reckon? ‘ and he said ‘go for it’ so I did. I contacted the seller on the Friday night, got the deal sorted on Saturday morning and the next week Lia was behind the counter serving coffees. It was crazy.”

'It was shock,' she claimed
Lia said ‘it was a shock’

“Ever since the day we met Lia has told me she wanted her own cafe. I might have had a few beers but when I saw the opportunity to make her dream happen I just had to go for it. Luckily for me, she loved the idea.”

Now, Lia is running the Penguin Cafe with her mum and sister in Wednesfield, West Midlands, while their daughters Francesca, 14, and Izabella, eight, help out on weekends.

Lia said: “It was always my dream to own my own cafe. My first job when I was 12 was in a cafe. I just love the atmosphere and meeting people. I never imagined that when I said goodbye to Scot he’d come back off a stag do and give me a cafe.

“I now tell him it’s always been my dream to own a Range Rover so I’m waiting to see what he gets me for our next anniversary.”
