Package holiday firm On the Beach recorded a massive 200% increase in website traffic and a 57% rise in bookings just moments after the PM had finished his sodden speech outside No10.
The vast majority of searches included a July 4 departure date.
Zoe Harris, the company’s chief customer officer, said: “As soon as Rishi called the election for July 4 our website numbers rocketed and most searches were for holidays leaving on election day. Are we surprised about people wanting to go on holiday on the day of the election? No, not really.
“People are fed up with hearing from political parties, so who can blame them for wanting a cocktail on the beach in blazing sunshine rather than listening to the endless political back and forth?”
John Fox, 45, booked a getaway and said: “I’ve had enough with seeing Rishi and Keir arguing like children. On election day I’ll be touching down in Majorca.”
Fellow Brit Claire Little, 37, is off to Turkey and added: “I just want to be in the sun with the kids, without a worry in the world.”
