Luke Humphries mauls Van Gerwen to face Littler in Premier League Darts last

World No.1 Luke Humphries swept Michael van Gerwen aside to reach the Premier League Darts final.

The reigning world champion has set up a rematch of the 2024 World Darts Championship final at the O2 Arena, where he previously beat Luke Littler at Ally Pally in January, following a 10-5 victory over MVG on Thursday night.

Humphries was forced to hit back early in the game after his throw was broken by Van Gerwen in the third leg, but he reacted in incredible fashion with a Hollywood 132 checkout and almost reeled in the big fish the following leg, missing the bullseye.

‘Cool Hand’ duly lived up to his nickname as he comfortably put away the defending seven-time Premier League champ with very little fuss, blitzing into a 7-2 advantage after winning five consecutive legs.

Van Gerwen was able to break Humphries to cut the deficit to 8-5 but was unable to hold his throw the following leg as Humphries checked out a stunning 125 via the outer bull, T20, D20 to extend his lead back to four legs and throw for the match.

The Leeds United superfan, who again walked out to Kaiser Chiefs’ hit ‘I Predict a Riot’, swiftly buried any chance of a comeback from the Dutchman as he won the next two legs to book his place against Littler in the final.

Humphries’ dominance was emphasised in the stats, as his 101.71 average and five 180s topped MVG’s 97.18 average and three 180s.

Both Luke’s have guaranteed themselves at least £125,000 – the prize for the tournament’s runner-up – while the champion will take home £275,000 as a new name will be added to the trophy.
